I chose to write about "Theme for English B." When I read this poem, I didn't really take it as anything negative at all, in fact, I read it as a declaration of being a proud African American. I believe that there are no questions about identity and that the author is just recollecting on the fact that he's just like a white person. Maybe he is coming into the fact that he is Black, yes, but he is too, American, and he is just declaring that. Identity is based on how you see yourself, according to this poem, and I, too, believe that.
