The critical lens I am thinking of using is psychological criticism on George Orwell’s novel 1984. Psychoanalytic theory refers to the definition and dynamics of personality development. I think using this critical method on 1984 would work because the novel focuses a lot on society and how people act when they are put in a situation that they cannot control. Rereading this novel though a psychological lens will help understand how the characters to this novel can relate to society now in present time based on the fact that this novel represents what Orwell possibly thought the future would be like. Thinking through a psychological lens helps understand the people around you and what the message is they want to set across.
