For my research paper I will be using a Marxism lens to look at the effects of materialism on the characters in the novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This method of criticism would work best for this novel because materialism plays such a vital role in the plot of the story and its relationship with The American Dream.
