2. The material had a shocking ending, and I personally did not mind that the author added grotesque elements at times. The story had meaning and emotion behind the grotesque elements, and if the author had reach those lengths with murder, than I think she executed the interpretation very well. Murder is reality, and it does occur in many cities, countries, and regions. To sugar coat the meaning or intention of murder lightly is not accurate. Murder is grotesque, and to represent it in any other way would have been inaccurate. The author also did a wonderful job at not going into too much detail about the murders. When the family was walked into the woods one by one, it was an understanding that they would not come back. The author could have described the bodies, and disgusting after behavior that took place. The author did not go that much into detail about the murders, but she also kept the reader informed about the events.
4. I really enjoyed this short story, and it kept my attention the entire time due to the suspense. Throughout the whole story the grandmother and her son Bailey have a disconnected relationship. The author makes the disconnection very open, and provides the reader with information about the grandmother’s interaction with men including her son. She recounts a man that entered her life, but never met her standards to stay in her life. As she is telling the grandchildren this story, she states that he was a good man but not good enough. Continuing through the literature it gives a clear understanding, what relationship the grandmother had with men. Basically, it was not till the end were I believe the grandmother's perception with men changed completely. The negative in men is noticed more than the positive throughout the whole text. It is not till the end, when the grandmother is faced with death, that her negative thoughts switch to positive. Even though, this horrible killer was standing in front of her, she was able to convince herself that inside his heart he was capable of change and could begin to be a better person. She even conveyed the positive thoughts to the killer, and reiterated them over and over showing empathy for his lost soul. I think this insight to the story had great delivery, and the author did an excellent job of painting that picture for me.

I agreed with you acceptance of the grotesque themes that were used in this story. I also agree that there was a lot left out that maybe made it a bit more interesting to supposition what actually happened. Perhaps is the author had included these events in detail, the message of the story would've been completely changed altogether!
