Question 2: I think the rose symbolizes the story of Miss Emily. She was what the definition of a rose is; delicate, beautiful in one way or another, without another it's nothing but an alone and boring piece to look at. Which is maybe why she did random and unusual things, to keep herself as an attention-getter. She kept the townspeople wondering. Everyone loves roses and will always know and remember what a rose is, just like with Miss Emily. The townspeople knew Miss Emily and everyone was grateful to have her around. And although Miss Emily passed away, the townspeople will always remember her. Miss Emily had a delicate heart and a peaceful mind, especially when she were to be alone in her home with her decomposed beau.
Question 3: In my opinion, I believe that just because someone is mentally ill does not mean they don't have feelings. I strongly believe that mentally ill people can definitely love and be in love. In the story Miss Emily expressed strange actions that the townspeople didn't quite understand, but the strange things that she did were led to believe it was for love. Going out to buy her dead loved one the things she though he would need was awkwardly strange enough, let alone keeping a decomposed body in her home. But I guess that is the purpose; people do crazy things when they are in love.
