“Story of an Hour” was an excellent short story. It definitely challenged typical convections. Kate Chopin wrote “There would be no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with which men and women believe they have a right to impose a private will upon a fellow-creature.” This makes relationships seemed forced and without love. I don’t think this story is about the love or the lack of love she had for her husband but more for the love she found for herself when she believed her husband was dead. “Free! Body and soul free!” Mrs. Mallard repeated. She was free to be who she wanted when she wanted. That’s the love she experienced. Sadly it was only for an hour.
“A&P” challenges my definition of romantic love because I do not believe in love at first sight. Sammy was instantly attracted to the group of girls. And he did stand up for them at the end of the story which normally I would say it is a start at romantic love. The reason why I believe it was more about lust than love was the fact that Sammy had wanted the girls to see his act of heroism. Romantic love is not caring whether or not you partner sees your act of kindness.

Great post! I agree with everything you say about the second part to A&P. I don't believe in love at first sight either.
