Only the tip of the berg...

I am in what I hope to be my very last semester at MSJC. I am a dance major who has completed (hopefully - keep your fingers crosses for me!) my undergraduate in only one year. It has been and will continue to be a whirlwind journey for me, and I savor every last moment of the harried, extremely busy, and active life that I lead. I love writing and actually write dance reviews for an online review site. I'll post a link to it at the end so everyone can see what I am passionate about in life. I am a full-time mother of one, active in my PTA as an executive board member, participate in any school functions I can for PTK if my schedule allows, and am currently taking 28 units this semester....Whew, I'm already tired. I dance, and will be dancing for many pieces this fall in the dance concert. I would love to have all of you come out and see it.

If that isn't enough, I'll delve into some more personal aspects of my life. I am currently going through a divorce from my husband of almost 9 years. Since we are still good friends, it really isn't too traumatic. I am engrossed in completing my degree as soon as possible because my goals do incorporate an educational aspect, but are more directed towards creating something bigger than myself. I have plans to eventually open a center for the arts, and invite all visual and performing artists as well as teachers to join me in being a part of something that can touch the lives of everyone in their communities. My vision for this is something that I believe I have been called upon to do by the energies that be, and I have no doubt that these plans will come to fruition.

In the most recent years of my life, I have bought and sold three Subway franchise restaurants. Upon selling them, I decided that I couldn't stand to do something that I didn't like for the rest of my life. It was at this point that I decided to return to school to pursue my passion - Dance! I am coming into this major a little older than most, and a little behind in the technique required, but I have an internal creative genius that flies in the face of all these encumbrances and compels me to follow my dream.

I look forward to writing and reading throughout this course. I also look forward to meeting some new friends, and learning about everyone's point of views, life experiences, and how they plan on changing the future with the education that we are all so privileged to experience.

  1. Hello Rachel,
Wow!! A dance major!! That is so wonderful!! Good for you, Rachel. It seems as though you are determined to go after your dreams and you will for sure achieve all you set your mind to. You have done so much already; it is amazing. I really hope that you will be able to open your arts center as soon as possible and weave everything that you want into it.
