My interpretation of Andrew Marvell’s “ To His Importunate Mistress” is about a man that is struggling to give his time and money to this woman. To me, he explains how together powerful yet his temptations take over when it comes to feeding his addiction with this woman. By temptation meaning his conscious is fighting to keep up with his passion; by living this double life. One that works solely to feed his addiction with this coy woman, yet confident knowing that he will never know the answer as to why his soul is hungry for her.
My interpretation of Andrew Marvell’s “ To His Coy Mistress” is about a man that is chasing a women that is playing hard to get. It almost seems like he tries to say the deepest statements proving how much he loves this woman. He relates his love to the end of time, and beyond the grave in some sense. Telling her to just give in to his love, because time will expire soon.
In the first interpretation of “ To His Importunate Mistress” he is mainly speaking in the third person, and a few sentences in the first. In the second interpretation “ To His Coy Mistress” he talks in the first person, and connects his deepest feeling of love for the woman. In many instances he mentions several statements about time and how it will run out. In any sense both poems are about a mans soul being pulled by this mysterious woman. I read a brief biography about him and it stated that both his mother and his father expired just a few years apart. This may have a huge impact on his depiction of love and time coinciding together.
